Upper Sixth students Dunni, Madina and Serene were invited to the Oswestry Rotary Club annual International Student Evening. After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the Rotarians were eager to restart the tradition. Two other schools, Adcote and Ellesmere College attended, adding to the truly diverse group of people at the event. The girls met students from India, Ukraine, Poland, Turkey and many more counties.
Each student was given the opportunity to share a few words about their home country and the move to the UK. Madina talked about her beautiful country, the “land of fire”, Azerbaijan. By the end of her talk, everyone had added Azerbaijan to their list of places to visit! Serene, from Hong Kong, gave the audience an insight into life in a boarding house, sharing heart-warming anecdotes about her time at Moreton thus far. Lastly, Dunni talked about her transition from schooling in Nigeria to schooling in the UK. She detailed how much she has enjoyed life here with special mention to the diverse extracurricular opportunities available at Moreton.
After a delicious meal and great conversation with the President of the Rotary Club, the girls headed back to school with a special gift. Overall, it was a wonderful evening filled with laughter and provided everyone with an insight into the different experiences of international students. It was a truly memorable evening for the girls.
