Moreton Hall has been selected by leading examination board AQA to take part in a national research programme which will help shape the future of GCSE History teaching and curricula across the UK.
Through Mrs Kidd’s close partnership with AQA, our Lower Five History pupils have been given the opportunity to participate in this important initiative, gaining early access to more than 200 newly developed educational resources for the GCSE Power and the People unit.
The resources have been developed by Royal Holloway, University of London, in collaboration with AQA and seven museum and archive partners, as part of AQA’s wider Inclusive Histories initiative. The project seeks to broaden the perspectives represented in History education, placing greater emphasis on the contributions of individuals, communities and movements which have played significant roles in the development of rights, freedoms and representation.
As part of the research programme, our Lower Five historians will use and evaluate the materials during their lessons before meeting with researchers to discuss their experiences. Pupils will be encouraged to offer their views on the effectiveness of the resources, how they support their learning and the extent to which they encourage deeper engagement with the subject.
Their feedback will directly inform how AQA delivers the GCSE History resources nationwide.
This is an excellent opportunity for Moreton Hall pupils to contribute to a significant national educational project, whilst developing their own analytical skills and understanding of historical interpretation. It also reflects the strength of History teaching at Moreton Hall and highlights Moreton Hall as a leading centre for History and Humanities education.
We are delighted that our pupils have been invited to take part in this research and look forward to seeing their contributions help inform the teaching of GCSE History for future generations of students.
