U13s Relish First National Schools Experience

For our youngest Lacrosse players, the return of the victorious U19 team was truly inspirational. Time with First Lacrosse Captain Emma certainly ensured they headed South in buoyant mood, determined to enjoy their first National School Lacrosse tournament.

Following an inspirational talk from Emma, the National Champion First Team Captain, the U13s travelled to Aldershot for their first experience of Nationals. After a team dinner at Pizza Express, they all settled into their hotel, excited at what lay ahead. They woke up to a very soggy, wet day but this wasn’t going to dampen their spirits. From singing with the girls in the neighboring tent, dancing with Cate, to battling the elements and the opposition – it was a day to remember. The whole team grew in confidence as the day progressed and played some excellent Lacrosse for such a young group. They certainly did Moreton proud both on and off the pitch – even the umpires commented that they were the most polite girls they’d come across. A great experience for their first Nationals!

It wasn’t just Moreton Hall girls making the journey South to cheer on our teams at the National Schools Lacrosse Championships. Many of our parents have been cheering from the sidelines, come rain or shine, since their daughters started playing Lacrosse for Moreton Hall. Here are some thoughts from some of those parents:

“Wow! What an incredible achievement, girls! Your hard work, dedication, and fantastic teamwork led us to this amazing victory. We’re so proud of your mindset, determination, and sportsmanship throughout this journey. A huge thank you to Moreton Hall coaches for their incredible work and to all who came to support. This championship win is a testament to the extraordinary team effort and spirit you’ve all shown. Couldn’t be prouder of our mighty school, the girls and the staff! Well done!”

“What an incredible weekend! This team was out for a win and they fought through every single game yesterday. Absolutely fantastic, we are so proud of them.”

“I think we will be processing and celebrating this historic achievement for a few days (weeks) following an emotional rollercoaster of a weekend with many heart-in-mouth moments. Safe to say, we could not be any prouder of the Moreton girls, this little team is made of something very special, aside from the obvious stamina, skill, resilience and determination. The girls knew there would be some very tough matches against schools with umpteen subs, coaches and even physios, but our girls went out there keeping their eyes on the prize, with some fabulous tactics up their sleeves and got the job done, all under the calming direction of their rock that is Carina Walsh!! And supported on the sidelines by the not so calm parents and families.”

“The idea of a 4am alarm, and a 600 mile round trip did not have the Hallmarkings of a relaxing Mother’s day! However I set off to Aldershot and was greeted by die-hard Moreton parents who were on their second day of support. From the very start the atmosphere was electric; the girls looked sharp and determined. The final result was what dreams are made of: a historic victory for Moreton Hall, who as we know is so small compared to the many big schools that fielded teams this weekend. Our girls showed a calm poise and modesty throughout; they were a credit to the school, themselves and us as parents. The emotion shown by the coaches, the team and the U19Bs is testament to the hours of hard work and training that has been put in over the years to make yesterday what it was. I think every Moreton mum would agree it was the best Mother’s Day present we could have had!”
