Congratulations to Pilkington Housemistress and teacher of Mathematics, Miss Madeleine Killacky, on being awarded a Boarding Research Fellowship Award by the Boarding Schools’ Association.
The scheme, launched by the BSA in 2016, gives senior members of the boarding community the chance to undertake a unique research opportunity. As part of the research, Madeleine will visit three boarding schools before presenting her findings at the annual BSA Boarding Conference in June 2024 to an audience of senior leaders.
Madeleine, who has worked in boarding houses for six years and oversees the pastoral wellbeing of Pilkington’s day and boarding pupils said: “Managing the pastoral wellbeing of the children under my care is at the heart of what I do. Not only is this an exciting opportunity on a personal level, but it will also allow me to bring fresh new ideas to Moreton in order to further enhance the current boarding provision in Pilkington House.”
“My research will focus on the benefits of creativity and unstructured play in pastoral senior school boarding settings. I’m looking forward to visiting other boarding schools in the UK and having the opportunity to present my research at the BSA annual conference in London.”
As part of the research Madeleine will draw upon the skills she has developed through her BSA Diploma in Boarding Leadership and the research skills she has acquired through her doctoral studies, PhD in English Literature, to complete a highly advanced and useful piece of research for other practitioners.
