Two of Moreton Hall’s Lower Sixth students, Rosie and Elsa, are making immense progress through the six modules of the Spanish Languages4Business course, which Moreton Hall’s Language Department is running this year for the first time. Rosie, who is studying Maths and Science at A Level, achieved an excellent grade in GCSE Spanish and was keen to continue developing her language skills. Rosie has passed the first four module assessments with flying colours! Rosie commented:
“I’m really enjoying this course as it is very useful and means I can continue learning Spanish alongside the A Levels I need for university.”
Later this month, Rosie will sit the unseen final assessment with the aim of achieving full accreditation for Level 2.
For Elsa, it is her second foreign language, and she appreciates that speaking languages is a very valuable skill that will make her stand out from the crowd as she pursues her future studies and career. Elsa said this about the course:
“It not only improves my knowledge of the Spanish language, but also improves my understanding of businesses. I really enjoy Miss Dodd’s teaching style and I feel like I am making great progress!”
The Level 1 and 2 course is run by the Language Alliance and comprises six modules; students learn how to understand language and communicate effectively in a business context.
For example, during the first term they learnt the language relevant to job adverts and applications, the structure of companies, and roles within a business. In the spring term, students learnt how to write emails, complete forms, and conduct online interviews in the Correspondence and Communications module.
This term, students are gaining the skills to make travel arrangements, deliver a sales pitch, and manage customer services. Students also learn key grammar in order to talk about their current situation, past experiences, and future plans. The content is therefore very different from that covered at GCSE and is entirely relevant to the world of further study and work in a Spanish-speaking country.
Our students have embraced this new course with enthusiasm and are acquiring some very useful skills along the way. Keep up the great work, girls!
This course is being offered to our current Upper Five students as a Sixth Form subject next year.
