For our Upper Five pupils, and external families considering Moreton Hall for their A Level programme, Moreton’s Sixth Form Information Evening was a one stop shop experience, introducing pupils and their families to Moreton Hall’s bespoke Sixth Form programme. With the Halsall-Williams Library playing host to the A Level subjects and activities fair, there were a wealth of opportunities to talk to teaching staff and current students about A Level choices, as well as activities such as Spoken English, CCF, MUN and the many Sixth Form societies.
In the Introduction to Moreton Sixth briefing, parents and pupils heard from staff and students about the step up to Sixth Form and about the exceptional academic, co-curricular and pastoral provision on offer. According to Moreton Sixth Registrar, Caroline Lang, the evening marks the first step in a year-long programme of preparation for Sixth Form life. Reflecting on this first event with the Class of 2024-26 she commented: “Each year, Moreton Sixth is shaped by the students, some who will have been with us since Moreton Prep, others who will join next September. This always feels a very special moment as a new cohort begins to come together to experience our unique brand of ambitious, joyous and nurturing Sixth Form life.”
As well as the briefing and subject stands, specialist seminars on Oxbridge, Medical and Veterinary, and Art Foundation routes provided additional early insights for interested girls and their parents.
According to Upper Five pupil Holly: “The evening was an insightful introduction into life as a Sixth Former. We were also able to visit the different subject stands to discuss with teachers how different subjects could help with our future career choices, as I am considering a career in journalism this was really useful for me.”
Jess, also clear about her aspirations agreed: “As I want to do Veterinary Science, two of my A Levels are already decided for me, but speaking to the teachers really helped me to find out what they all entailed and helped me decide my third.”
Katy added: “It was insightful learning about all the opportunities on offer in Moreton Sixth in addition to the academic subjects, such as the Rylands Diploma. Now I’ve got a much better feel for what Sixth Form life is like.”
International student Sunny agrees: “The teachers are incredibly supportive and have an overwhelming passion towards their own subject, which truly inspired me to find my own path. Other than regular subjects, activities such as DofE and CCF stalls also helped me to look for enrichment activities outside of the classroom. It was truly a splendid night!“
Reflecting on the event, Deputy Head Academic Sona Champion said: “This is the start of the next stage of the exciting educational journey which our girls and those joining us from outside Moreton are embarking upon. The evening was an excellent opportunity for the students to speak with those currently experiencing A Levels and get the real ‘low down’ on what it is like to study each of the subjects. Informative, excitable, honest and enthusiastic, girls (and staff!) gave fabulous presentations and tremendous information from their individual subject stands to Upper Five and their parents to assist them with the next decisions at school.”
