More than 35 players from over 15 schools travelled to Moreton Hall on Sunday 21st June for the school’s first Lacrosse Prospect Day, a free day of specialist coaching for girls in Years 5 to 11.
The turnout brought together a range of abilities, from complete beginners picking up a stick for the first time to players already competing at international level. Sessions were tailored throughout, so everyone left having developed their game whatever their starting point.
Players worked with a coaching line-up few schools could match. International coach Carina Bates, Moreton Hall’s Head of Lacrosse and Head Coach of the Welsh National Programme, was joined by Wales and GB attacker and Old Moretonian Ellie Jones, England goalkeeper William Baxter, and the wider Moreton Hall coaching team. The workshops covered both 6s and 10s lacrosse, with a Q&A session over lunch and a dedicated strength and conditioning session in the gym for the older players.
The afternoon finished with a fixture between the current Moreton Hall 1st team and a side of Old Moretonian star players, watched by families who had stayed on after the coaching. Refreshments rounded off the day, and parents were able to take a tour of the school either on arrival or at collection.
Moreton Hall’s reputation in the sport is well established. The school were National Schools Champions in 2024 and hold North Schools and Welsh Rally titles, and the current 1st team includes eight international players. Days like this give young players from across the region the chance to experience that environment first-hand.
