From Nashville to Moreton Hall: Celebrating Original Musical Talent

Creativity is flourishing at Moreton Hall, and Lower Five pupils Sadie and Yaa are a wonderful example of what can happen when talent, imagination and encouragement come together. Both girls are already making their mark as songwriters and performers, and their achievements reflect the way Moreton nurtures individual passions while supporting pupils to thrive across all areas of school life.

Music has been part of Sadie’s life since she was a young girl. Inspired by her musical mother, she grew up singing, harmonising and writing songs from a young age. That love of songwriting has now led to an extraordinary achievement: Sadie has professionally recorded two of her own original songs and released them on Spotify.

Recording in a professional studio in Nashville was, she said, a “crazy experience”. Having already written the demos, Sadie worked with professional musicians who built on her ideas and helped bring the songs to life. She said that “recording in the same studio as some of my music idols was surreal”, and that the experience is one she’ll never forget.

Her song, Goodbye, reflects on leaving Australia and saying farewell to friends and family, while another explores the fear of not pursuing what truly matters. For Sadie, songwriting is not just a creative outlet, but an emotional one too, and something that has brought her comfort and confidence over the years.

Yaa’s own musical journey has been equally shaped by a lifelong love of music. Also inspired by her mother, she has developed her style through curiosity, listening widely and teaching herself through online videos. Drawing inspiration from gospel, Afrobeats, pop and rap, she has been writing songs since she was young and brings real individuality to everything she creates.

At Moreton, Yaa has also loved exploring her creativity through Drama, recently taking part in the Senior School production of The Witches of Eastwick. Alongside her musical ambitions, she hopes to become a paediatrician one day, reflecting the breadth of aspiration that Moreton encourages in its pupils.

Together, Sadie and Yaa have written an original song based on the prologue to Romeo and Juliet, showing just how naturally creativity can be woven into academic life at Moreton. Their collaboration is a beautiful example of pupils taking inspiration from the curriculum and transforming it into something thoughtful, original and memorable.

At Moreton Hall, music and the arts are not separate from academic success, but an essential part of a rounded education. Across both the curriculum and co-curricular life, pupils are encouraged to think creatively, express themselves confidently and pursue their ambitions with enthusiasm. Sadie and Yaa are a shining example of that spirit, and we look forward to seeing where their talents take them next.
