Moreton Hall Celebrates STEM Success

Moreton Hall School is celebrating with the news that their Upper Four and Lower Five pupils have achieved impressive STEM results.

The pupils took part in both the Biology Challenge and the University of Warwick’s prestigious National Scientific Thinking Challenge.

The Biology Challenge, which is run once a year, stimulates a sense of curiosity for the natural world and encourages pupils to foster an interest in Biology beyond the school curriculum.

This year, 18 of Moreton’s pupils came away with awards, Lower Five pupil Mathilda gained a Silver medal, Debbie, Ffion, Saranya, Jessica in Lower Five and Esther in Upper Four were awarded a Bronze medal whilst 12 pupils were Highly Commended or Commended.

Hannah Peel, Head of Biology and Ecology, said: “We are thrilled! What a great set of results. This showcases just how talented our young biologists at Moreton Hall are.”

The Biology Challenge rewards pupils whose knowledge of the subjects has been increased by being involved in extracurricular research, whether that be through reading books or magazines, taking notice of news items of biological interest or being generally aware of the Earth’s natural flora and fauna. Last year, 43,641 pupils competed in the competition, highlighting just how impressive these results are.

More recently, Moreton was celebrating with the news that pupil Debbie had placed in the top 10% of pupils in the country after winning a Gold award in the National Scientific Thinking Challenge.

The competition aims to test pupils’ ability to apply their scientific knowledge and understanding to a diverse and unknown range of contexts, models, and phenomena. Since its launch in 2021, the challenge has attracted more than 20,000 people.

Taking part in the same competition, Hazel, Ellie and Evon achieved a Silver award, putting them in the top 25% of pupils whilst Lilly, Harriet, Naana and Lynn all achieved a Bronze award putting them in the top 40%.
