In the last of our celebrations of Moreton Hall’s ‘Queens of the North’ status in the world of National Schools Lacrosse, we’re focusing on the U13 team who made it into the final 16 at the Aldershot tournament.
For most of the U13 team, this year’s National Schools Lacrosse tournament has been their first experience of playing at this prestigious event and the first time they have met many of the large southern schools. As everyone expected of this impressive side, they embraced the experience with alacrity and impressed all who saw them both on and off the field.
In the morning the team played brilliantly, progressing to the final 16 despite the challenge of a tough group. In the first knockout round game they came up against St Catherine’s, Bramley – the U19A’s nemesis – and in a hard fought match, held them to a 1-1 draw at full time. Sadly, a golden goal in extra time brought this year’s tournament to an end for the U13 but they can be very proud of what they achieved. Coach Lulu Lewin commented: “The U13s were fabulous and I was so proud of how they conducted themselves both on and off the pitch. This is an important first experience for many of these girls and the future is full of promise in their hands.”
Captains Nina and Darcy (Lower Four) agree: “Going into Nationals for our first year was very exciting and nerve-racking, but by the end of the tournament we were very proud of what we had achieved as a team; making it into the championship and being placed in the top sixteen felt amazing. We are already very much looking forward to next year.”
