Moreton Hall’s ‘Queens of the North’ status in the world of National Schools Lacrosse, was further enhanced by the U15 team who put in a strong performance to finish at the top of Division One.
For the U15 team this year’s National Schools Lacrosse tournament has been a roller coaster affair, not least because weekend snow saw their event initially cancelled, only to then have it reinstated, so it was with bags packed and great excitement that the team headed south. For the Lower Five girls who make up the U15 team, this was always going to be a special tournament as it’s the last time they play as a year group before moving up to the U19A and B teams.
The U15 team made Moreton Hall proud, placing top of Division One. The Nationals are a big occasion and reflecting on the event, joint captains Tori and Lana both felt that in their first group games, nerves played a part. However, they both agree that as they grew in confidence in a challenging group stage, they were able to put nerves behind them and remember above all to enjoy playing. With enjoyment came some stunning results, culminating in their top of Division One place with a magnificent 6-1 win over Sherborne.
According to their coach, Lulu Lewin: “Although the girls started slowly they got better and beating Sherborne 6-1 in the first division final was a result which really showed their true colours and was a fantastic reflection of the team and their ability.” Lana agrees, saying that “although this was a roller coaster, we worked together and as we progressed, we remembered to enjoy the experience; that’s when we excelled.” Tori added “as this is the last time we will play as a year group, we all wanted to do well and to enjoy the day. It really was a memorable experience.”
Cheering the team on, Principal Sarah Davis said: “It was yet another wonderful day of sport on Tuesday, and I was proud and privileged to watch the girls performing at such a high level; the nerves at the start of the day were replaced with a feisty and highly skilled team spirit which brought about such a well-deserved result. I was stopped by an OM who was there from another school at one point who asked ‘How is Moreton’s Lacrosse doing these days?’. It was brilliant to report that we are alive and kicking and right up there! Thank you, again to the parents who made the long journey down to support and a huge well done to the girls and staff for making this another very memorable Moreton moment.”
