Moreton’s Leading Lady
Sheila Reid, a proud alumna of Moreton Hall (OM 1954), has enjoyed a
distinguished and wide-ranging career in theatre, film, and television. Her love
of drama first took root at Moreton, where the stage offered a natural home for
her talent and boundless energy.

and the unforgettable Madge Harvey in ITV’s hit
comedy Benidorm (2007–2016). Most recently,
she has returned to screens in the BBC sitcom
The Power of Parker.
In recognition of her outstanding
contribution to drama, Sheila was awarded
the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in
2011 — a fitting honour for a woman whose
career has inspired generations.
This year, Moreton’s Drama Department
established a Speech Day drama award in her
name. In characteristic generosity of spirit, she
expressed a wish that the award be given not
necessarily for technical brilliance alone, but to a
student who embodies a burning enthusiasm for
the craft of acting.
Her advice to aspiring performers is grounded in
