The Oswestry School Games offered something
more elusive: the thrill of the new. There, pupils
met unfamiliar sports with the same curiosity
they bring to a stage entrance or an unsolved
puzzle. Every festival—whether lacrosse, hockey,
cricket, or netball—became a small arena of
expression, a proving ground of skill and joy.
Lacrosse, especially, turned out to be this year’s
star turn, with triumphs over local rivals that were
less about scoreboard numbers than momentum
and memory.
Curriculum PE, too, expanded its script. Dance
and gymnastics were given centre stage,
encouraging pupils to explore balance, control,
and something less tangible: the rhythm of their
own confidence. These sessions weren’t simply
about physical development; they revealed the
artistry of movement, the choreography of effort.
Of course, no production comes to life without
its cast behind the curtain. The tireless staff, the
parents cheering from wind-blown sidelines—
their contributions echo long after the final
whistle.
This wasn’t just a year of sport. It was a year of
story: of grit, grace, and growing belief. And like
any good season, it leaves us eager for the next.
“ It’s not always winning...
People, I think, mistake
that it’s just winning.
Sometimes it could be,
but for me, it’s hitting
the best sets I can,
gaining confidence and
having a good time and
having fun.
– Simone Biles ”
